Study Abroad

The MA Social Policy offers several opportunities to spend a semester abroad. Apart from a participation in the MEST-program that offers a specialization in “European Labour Studies” at one of our partner universities, students have the option do a regular Erasmus exchange or even spend a semester at the University of North Carolina Chapel Hill. Prospective students interested in studying abroad for longer periods of time can apply for one of the double degree programs embedded in the MA Social Policy.

MEST - Master Européen en Sciences du Travail
(Specialization “European Labour Studies”)

The MA Social Policy provides its students with the opportunity to specialize in the interdisciplinary and European-oriented field of labor relations (“European Labour Studies”). Students get the chance to spend their third semester at one of our partner universities in the Master Européen en Sciences du Travail (MEST) program. MEST is an inter-university network of 14 European universities providing Master-level education in work and employment studies. After a successful completion of the program, students receive the international certificate „Master Européen en Sciences du Travail” issued by the Catholic University Louvain (UCL) in Belgium.

The semester abroad is integrated into the MA Social Policy. Some of the seminars offered in the first two semesters in Bremen are prerequisite for a participation in the MEST program. Students willing to spend their third semester at one of our partner universities should contact MEST coordinator Ruth Abramowski well in advance to include the semester abroad into their curriculum seamlessly. ECTS that are earned at the partner university can be accredited in Bremen (Module M7). The participation in the MEST program is ERASMUS-funded.

The semester abroad generally starts halfway through the third semester of the MA Social Policy program in January or February depending on the partner university. Annual application deadline for the participation in the MEST program is September 15.

Please find further information about the MEST program and the partner universities here or on the international website of the MEST-program.
