Equal opportunities at the SOCIUM

The promotion of gender equality based on and embedded in the Bremischen Hochschulgesetzes (BremHG) (Bremen legislation governing higher education), is an important part of the organization policy of the SOCIUM. The statute of the SOCIUM provides the election of the decentralized women's representatives which supports the SOCIUM management in this work. The decentralized women’s representatives advise, support and inform all academic staff of the SOCIUM as regards questions on the equality of gender in research and teaching.

Key issues

The work of the decentralized women's representative at the SOCIUM is based on the equality directive of the University of Bremen as well as on initiatives and tasks of the central women's representatives of the University of Bremen.

The most important issues are currently the compatibility of family and work, the gender-oriented promotion of young researchers as well as gender-related personnel monitoring.

The team performs the following tasks in order to address these issues:

  • Advice and support of the board of directors;

  • Advice and support of working groups in filling vacancies/recruiting new staff;

  • Prepare and publish equal opportunity reports of the SOCIUM;

  • Advice and support for academic staff at the SOCIUM.
