German Research Foundation supports establishment of a division for anthropological research data
SOCIUM is the only German research institute in social sciences which deals with theoretical and empirical questions of inequality, social policies and their social and political interdependencies. The interdisciplinary research focuses on the social, economic, political, cultural, organizational, legal, historical and sociomedical conditions and effects of social inequality, public social policies and their interdependencies. The research includes a mix of sociology, political and health sciences, economics and legal aspects.
The German Research Foundation (DFG) is supporting the Collaborative Research Center 1342 "Global Dynamics of Social Policy" in a third phase for another four years until the end of 2029. In total, over nine million euros have been made available to successfully complete the twelve-year research agenda. Read more ...

Das SOCIUM trauert um Claus Offe, der am 01.10.2025 verstorben ist. Er kam 1988 als Professor für Politikwissenschaft an die Universität Bremen und gehörte zu den Gründungsvätern des interdisziplinären Zentrums für Sozialpolitik (ZeS), eines der Vorläuferinstitute des SOCIUM. Hier baute er, anfangs zusammen mit Ulrich K. Preuß, die Abteilung „Theorie und Verfassung des Wohlfahrtsstaates“ auf, der er bis zu seinem Wechsel an die Humboldt Universität zu Berlin 1995 vorstand. Read more ...
