With its Jour Fixe-Presentations, which include reports on results and progress of research, the SOCIUM offers the wider public a regional discussion forum on issues of social inequality and social policy.

Additionally, every semester scholars and practitioners with professional backgrounds are invited to the SOCIUM in order to analyze questions on health economics and health policies. These lectures of the Colloquium on Health Policy (Gesundheitspolitisches Kolloquium) are also open to the public.

Established to strengthen the University’s high-profile area Social sciences the bridge professorship “Qualitative Methods and Microsociology” offers lectures and international workshops on Mixed Methods, Social Network Analysis and Comparative Methods.

The SOCIUM also organizes a variety of conferences, lectures and workshops to present and discuss recent societal developments regarding inequality and social policy research.

The workshop on network dynamics introduce the R package "Goldfish" that was developed to analyze and model networks using dynamic network actor models (DyNAMs).

In a recently published paper, James Hollway and his colleagues write that DyNAMs are

  • network models that allow researchers to control for and explicitly test hypotheses about observational dependence,

  • actor-oriented and conceive of network ties as the expression of actors’ preferences and available opportunities,

  • model coordination between the two actors involved in the creation of a tie,

  • more precise than existing panel-based models as they allow to draw inference from more granular time-stamped data,

  • permit simultaneous tests of hypotheses about weighted, windowed, and signed processes.

DyNAMs thus offer an alternative to stochastic actor oriented models (Siena) and exponential random graph models (ERGM).

The workshop will be taught in English.

If you would like to attend this workshop, please send a short email to Sebastian Haunss (haunss[at]uni-bremen.de) until January 8th, latest.
Workshop participants will then receive more detailed information about how to install "Goldfish" on their own computer.
